The Good, The Bad And The Hmm...

Kind of a "meh" day with the 5er today. After the kids went to bed last night I went out and put in the new spark plugs.  I was trying to be quiet and careful as they sleep right over the garage so it took longer than it should have.  I had a problem with cylinder 3 though.  The boot was pretty stuck on this one and as I yanked it free the connector stayed on the plug.  I was quite irritated with myself.  I replaced the entirety of the ignition system a while ago including the performance wires from BavAuto and was not looking forward to having to shell out another $120 because I flubbed something.  After I torqued in the plugs I had a look at it.  I was able to pull the boot back enough to get the end of the wire out and crimp the connector back on but I wasn't sure how well it would work.  I reconnected everything and let it sit until morning.

In the morning I went out and bought 8 feet of new vac hose to replace everything.  I will pick up that silicone kit eventually but I couldn't justify the price of it right now.  I figured out that the missing vac hose goes to the internal temp sensor, which resides under the drivers knee board.  Unfortunately, I spent a half hour or more looking for where it comes through the firewall and couldn't find the nipple.  I will have to break out a mirror to see if it is under the master cylinder or something like that; it is quite the mess of junk in that corner.  I also switched the position of the two hoses that connect on the same sensor based on a thread I read over to find what went where.

That done, I tried to fire up the car and got what I expected...nothing.  Well, not exactly nothing.  It started and promptly died and repeated the feat on several tries.  I figured that it was the wires, but sitting here now I am wondering if it could be the hoses I switched.  Easy enough to test in the morning.  As for the wires, scouring the BavAuto site brought to light a lifetime warranty on the wires!  Insert happy grin here.  I will call them in the morning and see what needs to be done to get a replacement set.  Hopefully I can get that in by the weekend and have my idle fixed to the best it has ever been.
